I don’t think it’s surprising to anyone that High School Musical 3 did better than SAW 5 at the box office this weekend. SAW is rated R, HSM3 is rated G so you’re obviously going to be able to get a bigger crowd out for High School Musical. I’m actually surprised HSM only made $42 million, but I’m sure DVD sales will be through the roof. And as for SAW 5, it took in $30.5 million, which is really good for an R rated movie, especially the 5th movie in a series. So apparently people are still intrigued by the story of Jigsaw (like me) and if the movies continue to make money like this there’s no telling when the series will end.
