A year after the smash hit SAW was released to audiences, SAW II is released in October of 2005. With a budget slightly larger than the first one, $4 million vs $2 million, we get an equally, if not better film than the original. On almost 3,000 screens the film pulled in $31,725,652 opening weekend. This is incredible! We saw it the friday it was released and the theater was sold out, we ended up in the front row. I saw it again that sunday to an almost sold out crowd. In its entire run in the theaters, worldwide, the film grossed $144,102,055. Lions Gate is making a killing off of these movies, and rightfully so. The sequel was just as good as the original without the bad acting of Carey Elwes and Danny Glover. This time we get Donnie Wahlberg as the main character, who has always pleasantly surprised me. And of course, with the success of the sequel, part 3 is already in the works.
